Beefalo herd killed by deerclops

Hi,

Today something weird happened. Since i have plenty of beefalo herds on the map i thought about to get some help of two of the closest herds to help me kill deerclops and also get alot of meat. deerclops killed all the herds in the biome (i think). Deerclops died and all is well. I kinda regret my desicion beacause the other beefaloherd is far away but i was about to lure them with beefalo horn at spring anyways. Spring arrives and i go gather some grass in the beefalo massacre biom and the herds are back?. They have newborns, Im realy confused. I checked the area before and couldnt find a single beefalo. Is there any new update im not aware about?
Please help.
